Microsoft Dataverse (formerly CDS)

Microsoft Dataverse is a database that can be used across the Power Platform provided by Microsoft.
Common Data Service (commonly known as CDS) has been renamed to Microsoft Dataverse.
Dataverse allows you to securely store and manage data used by your business applications.

Product/Service Overview

  • 01. Something like a special database

Dataverse consists of Azure SQL, Blob Storage, and Cosmos DB, all offered as a single service.
The content is automatically sorted according to its content.
The relational database (RDB) part runs on SQL, but attachments etc. are stored in Blog Storage, and audit logs, which have different data structures on a table-by-table basis, are stored on Cosmos DB, so that the right tools are managed in the right places.

  • 02. No SQL knowledge required

When designing a table in Dataverse, you do not need to know any of the traditional SQL language.
Relationships between tables can also be implemented with clicks, allowing end users to build tables themselves.

  • 03. No hassle of operation and maintenance

Dataverse is a SaaS service. Performance tuning, scaling, indexing, etc. are all handled by Microsoft, so there is no need for IT management.
Even if tens or hundreds of thousands of users are actually using it, Dataverse can be used without any configuration changes.

  • 04. Equipped with advanced security features

Dataverse has security features such as users, teams, departments, security roles, and access levels.
Data can be controlled on a row-by-row basis, allowing for complex security settings.

  • 05. Azure's powerful infrastructure

Dataverse is built on the powerful infrastructure of Azure.
In addition, we have two data centers in Japan, one in eastern Japan and one in western Japan, which are paired together to provide backup and redundancy.

  • 06. Solution management available

It has a solution management function, and you can export/import not only the definitions of the tables you have created, but also related views and forms, Power Apps apps, flows created with Power Automate, and more, all as a single solution.
Therefore, when operating in separate development and production environments, migration can be achieved simply by importing the solution.

  • 07. Supports advanced development

A Web API is provided as standard, and the tables you create can be accessed via the Web API.
Therefore, there is no need to set up a separate web server, and advanced customization is possible using the SDK.
