*This article is a report on a study session held on Tuesday, April 2020, 4.

This study session was originally scheduled to be held in Hakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture, but following the declaration of a state of emergency due to the spread of COVID-19, the on-site event was canceled and the session was changed to a completely online format.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused to those who applied.

However, on the day of the study session the day before yesterday, the majority of people attended as scheduled, and we are truly grateful... On behalf of all the members involved, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude.
As this was the first time we had ever tried a completely online study session, I was mainly involved in the planning, and in fact, right up until the day before, I was busy with all the little preparations, saying things like "do this like this, do that like that..." (^^;

...Leaving aside the behind-the-scenes chaos, let's move on to the report on the study session, which ended successfully.

Looking back on the day of the event

The engineer who was the instructor this time was also taking part in a completely online class for the first time,"I was worried about how much of my message was getting across to the participants."It seems.
Now let me tell you what the atmosphere was like.

Here's what the online course looks like.
The instructor's PC screen is shared with the participants, allowing them to see the contents of the distributed text alongside the actual screen operations.

When there are intricate operations to be performed, I felt that it might actually be easier for people to understand if they could see it in person like this, rather than showing it on a projector.

In addition to this main screen, we also made extensive use of the chat function this time.
We decided to use the chat to answer questions from participants and to announce break times and other information, but we were surprised at how much more active the interaction was than we expected!
For those who find it difficult to ask questions in person due to time limits, chat may be easier as you can speak without worrying too much about timing.

And what I found most interesting was,Participants can proactively answer questions and solve them together.There was a tendency for people to accept it as such.
The instructor was also very grateful for this.

One of the good things about chat is that it's easy to share your own opinions and knowledge.

On the other hand, we will conduct hands-on online sessions.difficultyThere were some moments when I felt that way.

When you meet face-to-face, you can see each other's faces, so it's easy to understand the other person's situation, but online, you can't see the other side of the screen, so it's inevitably one-sided. Since it's a long study session, we'll need to come up with various ideas to ensure that people don't get bored until the end.
Also, since comments flow constantly in chat, I felt it was necessary to prepare in advance how to ensure that questions are caught and responded to.

In any case, as this was our first online study session, I'm sure we gained a lot that will be useful for the future.
In my case, I have started to think about new preparations and how to proceed, so I am looking forward to future projects (^^)

At the end, some people asked about the next plan, which made me very happy!

Although we will continue to work from home and implement other self-restraint measures for some time to come, our division is moving forward with the attitude of proactively doing what each of us can do now.
We are also starting to plan new study sessions and seminars, so please look forward to them.
