Web Resource Functionality: Practical Application — Adding a "Supplementary Explanation Panel" to a Form
Hello, this is Matsubara, CRM Evangelist.
The standard screen isn't enough; it needs to fill that extra gap.
When trying to implement CRM in the workplace, you'll inevitably encounter situations like this.
"It's difficult for new employees to understand what to enter in this field."
"I want to display input examples on the screen, but the standard functions aren't sufficient to do so."
Even with EMOROCO CRM Lite, which allows you to build entities, fields, and forms without coding, it's simply not possible to embed supplementary explanation panels written in HTML using only the standard form settings screen.
This is where the Web Resources feature comes in handy.
This time, we will explain the steps involved in creating web resources and integrating them into forms, using an actual administration screen as a guide.
Types of files that can be registered as web resources
On the web resource creation screen, you can choose from the following nine file types:
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript (JS)
- XML
- PNG
- JPG
- GIF
- ICO
- SVG
In other words, it's possible to register not only static images, but also HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as a single set of components.
You can save everything from explanatory panels embedded within forms to simple input validation scripts and even your own custom aggregation and display logic as code on the administration screen.
How to use the Web Resource Creation Screen
Creating a web resource simply requires filling in the following fields:
- Upload file, ま た はCodesWrite HTML/CSS/JS directly in the field.
- File typeSelect (HTML, CSS, JS, etc.)
- Name(Internal identifier. A prefix is automatically assigned for each tenant.)
- Display name(A name used for clear display on the administration screen)
- Description(Notes on purpose and embedding location)
- 言语(Specify if multilingual support is required)
It supports both uploading files and directly pasting code, so if you have an existing HTML file, you can upload it as is, and for short explanatory text, it may be faster to write it directly in the code field.
Practical example: Adding an input guide panel to a form
Specifically, let's create a support panel that "displays the price threshold at which discount approval is required when entering the estimated price."
- On the web resource creation screen, select "HTML" as the file type.
- In the code field, write a simple HTML document explaining the monetary threshold (e.g., a message and style such as "Supervisor approval is required for amounts exceeding 30 yen").
- Set the display name to something easy to understand, such as "Estimate Amount Input Guide," and save it.
- From the form settings screen, place the web resource you just created into the target form.
This ensures that the person who opens the quotation form will naturally notice the important points to remember when filling it out.
This reduces the need to distribute separate manuals or provide verbal explanations each time, resulting in a screen that even new employees can use without hesitation.
Extend functionality only as needed, without breaking standard features.
The advantage of web resource functionality lies in its ability to lightly customize only the necessary parts without disrupting the standard CRM structure (entities, fields, forms, workflows).
Instead of building the entire system from scratch, you can focus your efforts on specific areas where you want to improve the design, thus minimizing the burden of maintenance.
Since the content can be changed at any time from the administration screen, even when business rules change, you can respond simply by updating the content of the web resource without having to recreate the form itself.
