EMOROCO CRM Lite

Comparing Zoho and EMOROCO CRM Lite — "Multifunctional but complex" vs. "Essential functions + extras": A key evaluation criterion.

Hello, this is Matsubara, CRM Evangelist.

"Zoho CRM has many features and is cost-effective. But for some reason, I can't seem to use it to its full potential."

Whenever I receive this kind of consultation, I always confirm the same thing.
"How many features of Zoho do you actually use?"

Almost without exception, the answer is "3 to 5".
Of the hundreds of features Zoho offers, only a fraction are actually used by those working in the field—this is a classic example of the "10-15% unused rate problem" with high-featured CRMs.

This article provides an honest comparison between Zoho CRM and EMOROCO CRM Lite.
I will frankly show both the cases where Zoho excels and the cases where EMOROCO excels.

Preface:
Zoho CRM is an excellent tool.
This article does not claim that EMOROCO is better than Zoho, but rather provides information to help you decide which is right for your company.

The strengths of Zoho CRM: Ideal for companies that need "multifunctional integration."

Zoho's greatest strength is that "you can do anything on one platform."

The suite called Zoho One includes the following apps in addition to the CRM:

Key apps included in Zoho One (over 50):

Business infrastructure:
Zoho Books (accounting), Zoho Invoice (invoicing), Zoho Expense (expenses)
Zoho People (HR & Attendance), Zoho Recruit (Recruitment)

marketing:
Zoho Campaigns (email distribution), Zoho Social (social networking management)
Zoho Marketing Hub (MA), Zoho Survey (survey)

communication:
Zoho Cliq (chat), Zoho Meeting (video conferencing)
 Zoho Mail (Business Email)

Customer Support:
Zoho Desk (help desk), Zoho SalesIQ (chatbot)

Cases where Zoho is overwhelmingly suitable:

  • I want to reduce monthly costs by integrating multiple SaaS business applications.
  • I want to manage email marketing (MA), social media management, and CRM on a single platform.
  • We need a global standard tool with equivalent functionality but at a lower cost than Salesforce.
  • We have an IT department that can manage and customize the entire Zoho system.

The strengths of EMOROCO CRM Lite: Specialized in "nurturing customer relationships"

EMOROCO CRM Lite is designed to focus on "essential functions + a little extra."
Our design philosophy isn't about being able to "do everything" like Zoho, but rather about having "all the features most necessary for deepening customer relationships."

Realities revealed from over 20 years of CRM implementation experience:

Based on my experience at Microsoft Japan, where I supported the implementation of various CRM systems both domestically and internationally, only about 10-15% of the features of a high-functional CRM are actually used in practice.
The remaining time and money will be used for customization.

EMOROCO CRM Lite was designed by "working backward" from this reality.
The "little itchy spots" that don't appear in feature comparison charts—emotional temperature, GIS maps, industry-specific templates, and UX within 3 clicks—are the core of CRMs that continue to be used in the field.

Cases where EMOROCO CRM Lite is overwhelmingly suitable:

  • We want to increase repeat business and referrals from existing customers.
  • I want to use GIS maps for door-to-door sales and route sales.
  • We want to create a system that maintains relationships with customers even after a change in the person in charge.
  • We need a tool that allows on-site staff to change settings themselves without needing an IT specialist.
  • We want to deepen our relationships with customers, regardless of their location or size, through data.

The true nature of "complexity"—the reason why it hasn't caught on at Zoho

Zoho CRM is certainly a cost-effective tool.
It excels in terms of the number of features, price, and global track record.
However, based on my experience of over 20 years of seeing patterns in companies where Zoho fails to take hold while providing CRM implementation support, I can say this:

Three reasons why Zoho hasn't caught on:

Reason ①: The person who can configure it and the person who uses it are separated.

While Zoho offers a high degree of customization, using it effectively requires skills similar to those of a Zoho administrator.
When the people who can configure the settings (IT staff/external partners) and the people who input the data daily (sales staff) are separated, it creates a situation where changes cannot be made when needed.

My emotional temperature has changed. I want to add a new field.
If you want to adjust the timing of your workflows—and this results in a "request to the IT department → two weeks later" situation—your CRM system won't grow.

Reason ②: Multiple features lead to "adding everything."

Because Zoho can "do anything," users tend to add more and more features after implementing it.
As the number of fields increases, the screen becomes sluggish, and it becomes difficult to know where to input what.

From a UX design perspective, where the main operation should be completed in three clicks or less, the more features you add, the more complex the operation becomes.

Reason #3: It doesn't address the specific needs and concerns of Japanese industries.

Zoho CRM is the global standard CRM.
In Japan, various industries such as legal services, real estate, construction, insurance agencies, and home care have their own unique workflows—including monthly closing management, GIS-based visit optimization, post-completion follow-up, and life event prediction—which cannot be handled by Zoho's standard features and require customization.

Typical patterns of "switching from Zoho"

Pattern 1: The service became paid before the user could fully utilize its features.
I started with Zoho's free plan,
I switched to a paid plan without fully understanding how to use it.
Even though a monthly fee is being incurred,
In reality, I only use list management and activity logging.

Pattern ②: Customization costs have accumulated
Every time you request customization tailored to your industry from an external partner
Costs were incurred. Customization costs exceeded 1 million yen over three years.
If I had used EMOROCO from the beginning, the cost would have been zero.

Pattern 3: Settings could not be transferred due to a change in personnel.
The IT person in charge of managing Zoho has resigned.
There is no one left who knows how to change the settings.
We had no choice but to continue using it as is.

Which should you choose? — Decision flowchart

Q1: Using multiple SaaS business applications (accounting, HR, email distribution, etc.)
Do you want to integrate everything into a single platform?

YES → Zoho One (or Zoho CRM) is appropriate.

 NO → Go to Q2

Q2: Is the main purpose to acquire new customers, implement inbound marketing automation (MA), and send out mass emails?

YES → HubSpot or Zoho Campaigns

 NO → Go to Q3

Q3: Is the main objective to increase repeat business and referrals from existing customers through door-to-door sales and face-to-face sales?

YES → EMOROCO CRM Lite is the best choice.

 NO → Go to Q4

Q4: Do you have an IT person in charge and would you like to significantly customize the CRM?

YES → Zoho CRM or Salesforce

NO → EMOROCO CRM Lite (No-code solution for on-site support)

The option of using them together

Zoho and EMOROCO CRM Lite offer the option of not just choosing one over the other, but also using them in combination, dividing their roles .

[Example of division of roles between Zoho and EMOROCO]

Zoho (Back Office & Business Integration)
 • Zoho Books (Accounting & Invoicing)
 • Zoho People (HR & Attendance)
 • Zoho Campaigns (email distribution)

EMOROCO CRM Lite (Frontend/Customer Relationships)
 • Emotional temperature • GIS map • Workflow
 • Designing follow-up strategies for door-to-door sales representatives
 • Transfer of responsibilities when the person in charge changes

How to connect:
Two-way integration via Zapier or Webhook
(Upon order confirmation: EMOROCO's project data is sent to Zoho Books)

By loosely coupling Zoho's back office with EMOROCO CRM Lite's front end, you can maximize the strengths of both.

Summary: Don't choose based on the "number of features."

Zoho CRM is an excellent tool.
Its number of features, price, and global track record are among the best in its class.

However, "more features = better suited to our company" is not necessarily true.
Based on over 20 years of experience implementing CRM systems, I can say that the reality is that "the more features a CRM system is chosen for, the less it ends up being used by the actual users."

The criterion for judgment is not "which list of functions is longer," but "will the person in charge at our company continue to use it every day after one week?"

Start with a 30-day free trial and begin setting up your entire customer emotional temperature range.
The initial discovery of "what percentage of users are 'cool' or below" will tell you the answer to the CRM you need for your company.
